Scoping for court reporters

My scoping services for court reports are generally charged on a per-page basis. The specific rate will depend on the turnaround time.

Rates can range from $1.80 to $3 per page for strict verbatim scoping, with faster turnaround times commanding higher prices. 

Here's a breakdown of my scoping rates based on turnaround time: 

• Standard: 5 days, $1.80/page
• Expedited: 3-4 days, $2.10/page 
• Two Days: 2 days, $2.35/page 
• Next Day: 24+ hours, $2.60/page 
• Overnight: 12+ hours, $3/page

These rates are for "strict verbatim" scoping, meaning that every word and punctuation mark is included exactly as it appears in the original transcript. Strict verbatim captures false starts, and stuttered words exactly as spoken.

• Major holidays are not included in turnaround times.
• These rates are based on 25-line pages. For pages with 26-28 lines, add 10 percent to the prices above.
• Synced audio is essential; I cannot accept jobs with unsynced audio.

Additional Charges

• Technical/Expert/Dense | $0.25/page added to above rates 
• Drops/Untrans | $0.25/page added to above rates 

Medical/Technical/Dense

Due to the extra time involved in scoping transcripts that are heavy with technical language (medical or other expert witness) or that are exceptionally dense (such as arbitrations with margin-to-margin words and very little white space per page), $0.25 per page may be added.

Drops/Untrans

Although I bill per page, time is also a consideration. Files containing a large amount of raw steno or missing words that must be typed in may be charged an additional $0.25 per page.

Meeting your deadlines is very important to me. Please e-mail me to confirm that I’m available and able to accommodate your deadline before you send a new job.

Be sure to tell me what day and time (in your time zone) you need the file returned. If no deadline is specified, I’ll assume you need standard 5-day turnaround.

Invoicing 

First-time clients will be billed upon completion, and payment is due that same day. This initial invoice needs to be paid before I can begin work on your next job. 

For returning clients, invoices are sent out on the 1st and 15th of every month. Payment is due within 14 days.

Payment  

You’ll receive my invoices via Square. You are welcome to pay with a credit card or bank transfer or send funds via PayPal.

Late fee

A 10 percent late fee, calculated from the invoice total, will be applied at the next billing cycle (15 days after the date of the initial invoice) and will compound every 30 days thereafter.
